RICH IN CHILDLIKE WONDER

[The Art of Noticing]

Welcome to The Quiet Rich—your weekly email to get “rich” in what matters most (like slow mornings, a quiet mind, and a house full of love). Today, you’ll learn the 3 ways to get rich in wonder:

CONTEXT

I was lucky to spend last week celebrating Thanksgiving in my childhood home. And I couldn’t help but remember being a kid and pressing my face against the window, mesmerized by snow falling outside.

Remember that? How amazed we were by the simple things?

That feeling—pure, effortless wonder—seems to vanish somewhere between childhood and adulthood. We drive the same routes, shop at the same grocery stores, scroll the same apps. If we’re not careful, our days can blur together into a monotonous rhythm.

But here’s what I realized: Wonder is still here. With us, right now. We don’t need to backpack through Europe or go on an African safari to find it. The world is full of wondrous things patiently waiting for us to notice them.

We’ve simply forgotten the art of noticing.

METHOD

3 ways to experience more wonder starting today:

1. Pretend it's "the last time"

Life is short. We rarely know when we visit a place for the last time, or have our last conversation with someone.

If we did know that, we'd probably act differently in those moments. Maybe we'd be more present. Maybe we'd tell them how much they mean to us.

So start treating ordinary experiences like they might not happen again.

Next time you're walking through your neighborhood, imagine a future when you’ve moved somewhere else. A future when you never walk down this street anymore. Suddenly, you'll notice a gorgeous tree. The charming old house on the corner. The scent in the air.

And when you hug your favorite people goodbye, imagine it's the last time. (A sad thought, I know—but it works wonders.) You'll hold on a little longer. You’ll notice what they feel like in your arms. You'll be present instead of rushing off to your next obligation.

2. Plan daily dates with yourself

Try something new every single day. It doesn't have to be grand.

Order the chef-recommended dish on the menu you'd normally never pick. Take the subway instead of driving. Go into that coffeeshop you always walk past but never enter. Novelty is key to keeping wonder alive.

Two days ago, I spent a luxuriously long time in a new bookstore and it was pure magic. I gazed fondly at all the covers. I flipped through dozens of pages I can’t wait to read. I thought about all the people I’m buying books for this holiday season.

That little stroll around a bookshop made my entire day feel richer.

3. Switch locations throughout your day

If I eat breakfast in my kitchen, work from home all day, exercise in my living room, and then go to bed… that day won't feel very full.

But if I have breakfast in my kitchen, work from an office, take a phone call while walking around the block, and meet a friend for dinner at a new restaurant? That same 12 hours suddenly feels much more expansive and textured.

Try to switch your surroundings at least 3 times per day. It tricks your brain into slowing time down.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

You don't need life-changing milestones to experience wonder.

You don't need to wait for vacation or retirement or "someday."

Wonder is simply the art of noticing—and it's available to you right now, in this exact moment, wherever you are.

The clouds look different today than they did yesterday. Notice them. Your coffee tastes better when you actually pay attention. Savor it. That conversation with your sibling could reveal something wonderful if you listen fully.

Start small. Pick one of those three methods and try it today.

I promise—the ordinary will start to feel extraordinary again.

Much love,

Jade
